Campaigns

The MRF has created various campaigns designed to increase knowledge and awareness of melanoma, as well as reduce the amount of tanning bed users.

The "Check Me Out" advertisements were seen by over 50,000 people at a Jacksonville Jaguars football game in October of 2011.  The goal of the campaign was to raise awareness of melanoma and to show the football fans that spotting a melanoma early, on yourself or someone else, can save a life.  Research shows that patients, not doctors, are most likely to spot their melanoma, making it extrememly important to examine your skin every month and know what is normal for YOU.  Pay special attention to anything that is new and/or changing on your skin and bring anything suspicious to the attention of your doctor or dermatologist.

The Take a Stand, Don't Tan! campaign is designed to educate young people on the dangers of tanning (both indoor and outdoor) and our goal is to reduce the amount of tanning bed users in the United States.  The campaign allows visitors to read and listen to stories of ex-tanners and their decisions to change their habits related to sun and tanning bed exposure.  You can take the Take a Stand, Don't Tan! Pledge here as well and make a pledge to avoid tanning beds.  These pledges are especially useful during prom season and before spring break to remind our youth that they don't have to be tan to be beautiful.

We have also printed two posters (2' x 3') that are available for distribution.  Check out our Take a Stand, Don't Tan! poster and our 5 Facts About Tanning and Sun Safety poster.  If you'd like to request these posters, please email education@melanoma.org.  All educational materials are free of charge.
