Stand With Us!
What is advocacy?
The word advocacy traces its roots to advocates, a Latin term describing one who is called alongside to help, to support, and to lend their voice to someone in need. The Melanoma Research Foundation’s (MRF) advocates are patients, survivors, friends, and family members who advocate on behalf of the melanoma community to raise the awareness of this disease, and the need for a cure. We stand together, and speak with “one voice” so that we can maximize our effectiveness.
There are many different ways that you can contribute and become involved in advocacy efforts for melanoma. Often, having a significant impact can take you only a few minutes, and may just be a ‘click’ away.
Becoming a MRF Advocate
Stand with us and share your voice! There is strength in numbers. By joining us and becoming a MRF Advocate, you are making a priceless contribution toward our efforts to raise awareness, and to demand increased funding for research. Below are four easy steps to getting started:
Step 1: Register online to be a MRF Melanoma Messenger. Once you’ve registered, there are many ways you can take action on national, state and local levels.
Step 2: Download the MRF Melanoma Messenger Toolkit
Step 3: Contact your Congressional delegation at http://capwiz.com/skincancerprevention/home/. We’ll provide you with everything that you will need to inform your representative about this deadly type of skin cancer.
Step 4: Tell others! Help us spread the message by telling others-your friends, family, co-workers and elected officials. Educating people about melanoma is the first step in finding pathways to a cure!
You are encouraged to contact the MRF at volunteer@melanoma.org with any questions
