Janise Ghidotti

On July 17, 2011, I was diagnosed with stage IV Melanoma.  Who would have ever thought the beautiful ball of fire we worship every summer day, "The Sun", would give me such a terrible disease.  Growing up, my summer days consisted of 8:00am swim team practice, snychronized swimming, and tennis, all at the worst times of the day!  Sunscreen was not even in my family's vocabulary.  Our Italian skin was a good enough base (or so we thought). Needless to say, I couldn't get enough of The Sun!

I just finished my last round of radiation - five double hits (which leaves you very exhausted).  I've had many conference calls to Duke University Medical Center and many visits with my oncologists.  I've decided to go to Duke University to have surgery and de-bulk most of the disease.

One thing I can say through all of this is that the majority of my strength is coming from the big man upstairs.  I asked Father Grimes one day if God gives you as much as you can handle, why me...Has he forgotten how much he's already given me?  He answered with a big smile and said to me "God doesn't give it to you".  My problem is, I was losing trust in Him.  From that day forward, I know I am not in this alone.  God will continue to protect me and keep me strong.

To all my Family & Friends, I truly appreciate all of your prayers and kindness you have all shared with me.  This is a challenge, but like I said, "Cancer picked the wrong girl!"
