Off-Topic Forum

The MPIP Off-Topic Forum is a community bulletin board that provides the melanoma community with a safe space to share experiences and to give and find support from others who can relate to having or caring for someone with a melanoma diagnosis. Please note: if you have an urgent question about melanoma to ask the community, visit the main MPIP Forum.

MPIP is the oldest and largest community of people affected by melanoma hosted through the Melanoma Research Foundation. It is designed to provide support and information to caregivers, patients, family and friends. Once you have been touched by melanoma—either as a patient or as a family member or friend of a patient—you become part of a community. It is not a community anyone joins willingly. But if you must be part of this group, you will find no better place to find the tools you need in your journey with this cancer, and the friends who can make that journey more bearable.

The information on the bulletin board is open and accessible to everyone. To add a new topic or to post a reply, you must be a registered user. Please note that you will be able to post both topics and replies anonymously even though you are logged in. All posts must abide by MRF posting policies.

Hello,

Last Thursday my father was taking to the ER for an ALOC (altered level of consciousness) a CT scan was done of his head and a tumor was found on his brain. The tumor was removed last Friday and was determined to be a metastatic melanoma tumor (stage IV). He came home from the hospital yesterday  6 days after brain surgery, and will be undergoing the cyberknife within the next 4 weeks. My mother just found out that his health insurance from his employer only covers $25,000.00 per year for medical care.My family is floored, how can an insurance policy be so minimal?

My question is, are there any sources or foundations or organizations that help with cancer treatments? We live in California and at this point fear that the hospital will not do the cyberknife surgery.

My 2 years old LG Optimus L7 used to run out of battery half day and only lasted one hour of screen time, then I invest in the extended battery for it. I think with the new battery it'll last all day even actively played games throughout the day, or use it as a wifi hotspot. I love my L7 again thank's to the new battery off MPJ. It lasts two days when the phone is at normal usage. If you have a problem like I have had with the stock battery just tried a new battery.

It's been years since I've been around. Not even sure if there would be anyone who'd remember me. For anyone who might remember. Just a note to say I'm still kicking. And will always be grateful for the late night darkside chats and wicked humour that helped me through an incredibly tough time.

My mom have been diagnosed with a stage III melanoma in march.

Also, I have a grandma with senil dementia, and take a lot of me to take care of her (help with higiene, change diapers, medicines...).

My father e mother have not a good relationship, so sometimes they fight.

I think I may be on depression and always ask my boyfriend (that happens to be in USA, and I'm in brazil) for help.. and my friends too..

Yesterday I fought with my boyfriend because he said I'm always complaining and doing nothing and also my friends said that.

I am very happy for finding this forum, cause here there are people that have the same problem and can understand me...

Life is NOT a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body totally used up & worn out, & screaming WOOHOOO, WHAT A RIDE!!

Well 6 years NED now, and I am actually annoyed by having 2 basal cells removed from my neck.  They are both on the left side of my neck(car drivers side) and so I am curious as to the actual rules on window tinting vs sunscreen.  From what I've gathered so far, it doesn't matter how much windows are tinted as long as they have a plastic film.  Is there any specific film that is best to use? if so, does it matter how dark the tinting is?

I am in the middle of a melanoma incident (1b thank heavens, just can't seem to get clear margins). Just to make life more interesting, I had a MRI breast procedure. Radiologist recommending a MRI guided biopsy. I know if I posted a melanoma path report, you guys could interpret it for me. There are just way too many breast cancer web sites (and I have not been diagosed with breast cancer yet anyway!!). I can't find any lay sites to help me understand the radiology report for the MRI imaging.

Any ideas? Any breast issue web sites/forums like this one?

Thanks!

I have tried repeatedly to subscribe to topics so I can follow up, but I am unable to do that. When I click that link, it takes me right away to a page with lots of lines of info in a format that looks like maybe HTML? Any ideas? I hate to be a pain with this, but I miss follow up comments, and also topics I would like to respond to. indecision

Thanks!

Since a lot of schools don’t provide lockers to students, they have to take all their books home everyday. In addition, some schools demand a separate notebook for each class. There is no doubt that it adds burdens of the children. Actually, I don’t think that children can bear the weight of these books that they have to bring back and forth. In addition, a heavy backpack will do harms to children’s spine development.

Given the above, parents and schools have to alleviate burdens on children. What can parents do? For the sake of children's health, they have to select appropriate kids backpacks which are made of high quality and lightweight materials. By doing this, the weight of the backpack itself has been reduced, which is of great importance.

I am sure this has probably been discussed, but I have not seen the threads. I used to get email updates on new posts, or comments that were new on previous posts. Ids this still an option, and if so, how do I subscribe once again? I have not followed through on some posts, and I feel badly about that - the responses fell through the cracks during periods I was not frequenting the board.

Any help is appreciated...thanks!

Tina
