Off-Topic Forum

The MPIP Off-Topic Forum is a community bulletin board that provides the melanoma community with a safe space to share experiences and to give and find support from others who can relate to having or caring for someone with a melanoma diagnosis. Please note: if you have an urgent question about melanoma to ask the community, visit the main MPIP Forum.

MPIP is the oldest and largest community of people affected by melanoma hosted through the Melanoma Research Foundation. It is designed to provide support and information to caregivers, patients, family and friends. Once you have been touched by melanoma—either as a patient or as a family member or friend of a patient—you become part of a community. It is not a community anyone joins willingly. But if you must be part of this group, you will find no better place to find the tools you need in your journey with this cancer, and the friends who can make that journey more bearable.

The information on the bulletin board is open and accessible to everyone. To add a new topic or to post a reply, you must be a registered user. Please note that you will be able to post both topics and replies anonymously even though you are logged in. All posts must abide by MRF posting policies.

Hi. My name is Brandi and I am 24 years old. I have had a mole on my back since I could remember. It used to be a perfectly circle brown mole. Now, not so much. My stepmom has been telling me since I was 12 that I needed it checked out. Actually, I can't wear anything backless anymore cause even strangers who have seen it have pulled me to the side and told me it looked dangerous. I am not quite sure. It has changed shaped for years but I never paid much attention. About 2 months ago, my brother noticed it and told me that it had started to turn black in a part of it. Today I felt it and it had grown a lump on it. Should I be worried? Should I see a doctor? I also have another mole on my jaw line that has started to look like it is spreading color and now I am having jaw problems where my jaw will lock and I can't open it for a while. Am I crazy? Should I get these checked out?

Hi all, so I am looking for some advice. I am 32 years old, diagnosed with stage 1b melanoma last October. Had a WLE and no recurrence since. My husband and I have a handsome 2 year old son and really want to have another. Anyone ever receive any type of advice from doctors whether this is a good idea or not? Also, if anyone knows any specilaists in the NJ area that maybe have some insight on family planning after melanoma, I would love a recommendation!

Thank you!!

Waiting for biopsy results is an exercise in patience and today I'm running a little low on that. Still, I'm posting this in off-topic because it very well could be. Have had this skin thing for at least several years, I'm not sure how many (I'm 46). However it's always just been a smooth area of discolored skin until the last few months when it started growing bumps and itching a bit. Looking online, it seems the most likely possibilities are some form of keratosis, an atypical nevi, melanoma, or a nevi that is transitioning into its cancerous sibling. The (general) dermatologist who took the biopsy also had me schedule for an excision in a couple of weeks, but gave no hint as to his thoughts on diagnosis. Obviously nobody here is likely to know for sure, I'm just passing time and hoping for the best while being prepared for less than the best.

I've had this stupid program on my Windows for a couple days and I cant find away to remove it. I Google how this happen on my computer and some say "Normally, Dragon Branch is mainly distributed through torrents, peer to peer file sharing, freeware downloads, malignant websites and so on." (Quoted from this) So, I look at recently downloaded applications on my computer and the same day this appeared after that program is installed.  Is there any ideas to remove this sturborn?

My mom have been diagnosed with a stage III melanoma in march.

Also, I have a grandma with senil dementia, and take a lot of me to take care of her (help with higiene, change diapers, medicines...).

My father e mother have not a good relationship, so sometimes they fight.

I think I may be on depression and always ask my boyfriend (that happens to be in USA, and I'm in brazil) for help.. and my friends too..

Yesterday I fought with my boyfriend because he said I'm always complaining and doing nothing and also my friends said that.

I am very happy for finding this forum, cause here there are people that have the same problem and can understand me...

Jackie, Dan's beloved wife, called a bit ago to let me know Dan passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 26th.  She had gone bike-riding with a friend, and when she returned home, she found Dan on the floor.  He apparently died from a heart attack.  She is devastated, as you can imagine.  Please keep Jackie, their daughter Danielle, and their two grandchildren, Emerson and Natalie in your heart and prayers.  Dan tried to come across as a bad-ass here, but in real life he was just a big ol' tenderhearted teddy bear.  He never got over losing his son, Nate, to melanoma.

Jackie is trying to be strong, and relying on her faith in God to get her through Dan's passing.  She said she doesn't think she can take any more phone calls and having to explain things, and she asked me to share this news here.  If you'd like to send a card, her address is:

Jackie Thompson

46828 Woodfield Dr.

Mattawan, Michigan  49071

Memorials can be made, in Nate's name, to the MRF.

Fly high, sweet DT.. I will love and miss you forever.

I've been going crazy trying to figure out how to add a photo and update my profile info. From what I've been able to find on the site, it just says to click on my name in the top right corner, but my name is not clickable?

Anyone know???

Thanks!

It's been years since I've been around. Not even sure if there would be anyone who'd remember me. For anyone who might remember. Just a note to say I'm still kicking. And will always be grateful for the late night darkside chats and wicked humour that helped me through an incredibly tough time.
