Off-Topic Forum

The MPIP Off-Topic Forum is a community bulletin board that provides the melanoma community with a safe space to share experiences and to give and find support from others who can relate to having or caring for someone with a melanoma diagnosis. Please note: if you have an urgent question about melanoma to ask the community, visit the main MPIP Forum.

MPIP is the oldest and largest community of people affected by melanoma hosted through the Melanoma Research Foundation. It is designed to provide support and information to caregivers, patients, family and friends. Once you have been touched by melanoma—either as a patient or as a family member or friend of a patient—you become part of a community. It is not a community anyone joins willingly. But if you must be part of this group, you will find no better place to find the tools you need in your journey with this cancer, and the friends who can make that journey more bearable.

The information on the bulletin board is open and accessible to everyone. To add a new topic or to post a reply, you must be a registered user. Please note that you will be able to post both topics and replies anonymously even though you are logged in. All posts must abide by MRF posting policies.

I am in the middle of a melanoma incident (1b thank heavens, just can't seem to get clear margins). Just to make life more interesting, I had a MRI breast procedure. Radiologist recommending a MRI guided biopsy. I know if I posted a melanoma path report, you guys could interpret it for me. There are just way too many breast cancer web sites (and I have not been diagosed with breast cancer yet anyway!!). I can't find any lay sites to help me understand the radiology report for the MRI imaging.

Any ideas? Any breast issue web sites/forums like this one?

Thanks!

I have tried repeatedly to subscribe to topics so I can follow up, but I am unable to do that. When I click that link, it takes me right away to a page with lots of lines of info in a format that looks like maybe HTML? Any ideas? I hate to be a pain with this, but I miss follow up comments, and also topics I would like to respond to. indecision

Thanks!

Tina

Ever want to turn your scans into text? With this free online tool you can convert your pathology reports to text you can edit in seconds.

Saves you the trouble of loading software on your PC.

I typed my path reports painfully- copying each word before i found this technology. Must copy/paste to a notepad after it's converted for you.

I know, you can do this with Word, but I was very lazy and never learned how to use Microsoft Word very well.

OCR stands for
Optical Character Recognition.

So Bonnie,

Posting from PhotoBucket...

I went to share and direct link for layout pages and copied the http stuff.  Then I opened the little image icon next to the smiley and pasted into the URL box.  Then (since my pic was giant!), I had to do a redo so  I adjusted the height to 500 and it automatically adjusted the width and hit okay.  (I don't know what the other stuff does.  I will futz with it later as I gotta go and do my P90X workout now so I can hurt.

But I am gonna hit the spellcheck button 'cos it is also nifty and new.

HMMM- so futz isn't a real word?  Who knew.

Take good care, K.

I'm writting my paper and need to extract some paragraph out of pdf materials, but the pdf can not be copied, so I need to tranfer them to word so that I can use them freely. Any idea to do that? Do I have to use a software or any tools?

Since a lot of schools don’t provide lockers to students, they have to take all their books home everyday. In addition, some schools demand a separate notebook for each class. There is no doubt that it adds burdens of the children. Actually, I don’t think that children can bear the weight of these books that they have to bring back and forth. In addition, a heavy backpack will do harms to children’s spine development.

Given the above, parents and schools have to alleviate burdens on children. What can parents do? For the sake of children's health, they have to select appropriate kids backpacks which are made of high quality and lightweight materials. By doing this, the weight of the backpack itself has been reduced, which is of great importance.

I am sure this has probably been discussed, but I have not seen the threads. I used to get email updates on new posts, or comments that were new on previous posts. Ids this still an option, and if so, how do I subscribe once again? I have not followed through on some posts, and I feel badly about that - the responses fell through the cracks during periods I was not frequenting the board.

Any help is appreciated...thanks!

My heart is shattered and I can't stop the tears.  I just read Cigar Bob's post on facebook.  I just can't believe it. It hurts so damn bad.  I can't imagine how Bob is feeling.

Dian was so intelligent, encouraged and inspired everyone on this board and others, loved and played and sang her beloved blues and bluegrass music, was such a beautiful lady, inside and out, and she was my friend, and a friend to many all over the world.

I'll always love you, dear sweet Dian, and we're all going to miss you terribly. Rest in peace, Dian.  You fought one helluva fight, all the way to the end; it's time to rest now.

DAMN MELANOMA ALL TO HELL!!!!!!!!!

You fought one helluva fight, all the way to the end; it's time to rest now.   You fought one helluva fight, all the way to the end; it's time to rest now.

Life is NOT a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body totally used up & worn out, & screaming WOOHOOO, WHAT A RIDE!!

Hello, MRF members and users,

I had a biopsy of a mole on my ankle on 11/18, and it was diagnosed as a displastic nevi on 11/21. The doctor's office called me on that day to schedule surgery to remove the remaining mole on 11/26. I underwent the surgery on that day. I am concerned about the aggressiveness of the treatment. The doctor removed a significant area around the mole and sent it off to be analyzed.

From my research, I haven't seen displastic nevi handled in such an aggressive manner. I go back on 12/8 to have the stitiches removed, so I can pose my questions to the doctor at that time, but does anyone have any suggestions as to what questions (other than the obvious, "Is it melanoma?") I should be asking? Are there stages to displastic nevi that warrant aggressive action and concern? I appreciate your suggestions and opinions, and I thank you all in advance for your attention to my question and concerns.

Has anyone else seen the episode where she does reading at a Melanoma fundraiser?

Hoped a few Melanoma Angels would have come through.

Hopefully she'll continue to spread awareness & raise funds!

Love her!
