Melanoma Awareness Day at Sunlight Mountain Resort

Date of Event:
Sat, 2010-03-06
On Saturday March 6, 2010, Sunlight Mountain Resort will host the second annual Melanoma Awareness Day. The day is held in memory of Brad Lanpher, who spent many of his days skiing at Sunlight. Brad was diagnosed with melanoma in 2004 and was taken by the cancer in 2005 at age 35.

Dr. Kelly Thomas, a dermatologist who works with Glenwood Medical Associates will be available in the lodge from 9:00am to 12:00pm to provide free melanoma screenings. Rocky Mountain Sunscreen will provide free sunscreen samples and Sun Smart will provide information on high altitude skin care.

Sunlight will match donations of $25 or more to the MRF with a complimentary 2010/11 Adult Lift Ticket (only one ticket is allowed per donation).

For the first time, Sunlight will host the Brad Lanpher Hot Dog Race. Interested persons may purchase a racing hot dog for $10 and any age may participate. Participants will take their hot dog to the race course on Dotsero at 3:00pm. There will be three heats of hot dog races and the “top dog” from each race will advance to the finals. Registration begins at 9:00am and ends at 2:30pm and will be held at the Grizzly Bar on the sundeck. All three finalists will be given an award and the overall winner will be given a $100 Sunlight Mountain Resort gift certificate that can be used anywhere at Sunlight Mountain Resort or at the Sunlight Ski and Bike Shop in Glenwood Springs.

There will also be drawings for prizes provided by many local businesses.
