Miles for Melanoma 5k Run/Walk at Universal Studios

In early 2012, the MRF, Pale Girl SPEAKS and Universal Pictures announced that they would partner in hosting a 5k run/walk on the Universal Studios backlot in Hollywood, California.

Pale Girl SPEAKS, founded by three-time melanoma survivor and advocate Hillary Fogelson, is an online resource providing practical advice and tips for living safely in the sun. The run/walk occurs on the backlot of the studio where Hillary’s husband, Adam Fogelson, is the former Chairman of the motion picture group.

Participants of this inaugural event had the opportunity to see iconic movie sights, like the re-creation of Amityville Island from Jaws, Bates Motel, and the village of Whoville, while also raising money for melanoma research. While on site at the impressive Universal backlot, runners and walkers learned critical tips on how to face the sun safely.  The inaugural event was so successful, Pale Girl SPEAKS, Universal and the MRF partnered again in 2013 for the second annual 5k!

Together, the first and second Miles for Melanoma 5k Run/Walk at Universal Studios raised over half a million dollars for melanoma education, prevention and early detection!
