MRF Phone Buddy Program
Newly diagnosed with melanoma? Would you like to talk to someone who has gone through that experience?
MRF’s Peer-to-Peer Phone Buddy Program can put you in touch with others who have been diagnosed with melanoma, and completed a wide range of treatments for their disease. These Phone Buddies know what you are going through, because they’ve been there—and survived. They are available to share their own personal experiences, and provide understanding, support and practical information.
Buddies are a source of encouragement and hope to newly diagnosed individuals. We can match you with someone using a wide variety of criteria such as type of melanoma, stage, same type of treatment, age, and life situation.
Your Phone Buddy is:
- Someone to talk to on the phone or by email
- A support person for you cancer journey
- A sounding board to help you talk through treatment options or other decisions
- A peer partner to share experiences, provide encouragement, and find hope
All of our Phone Buddy volunteers receive regular training and can provide you with a shoulder to lean on, as well as numerous resources that will assist you as you navigate the melanoma landscape.
If you would like to participate in this free program, as either a patient or a volunteer, please contact Mary Mendoza, National Director of Volunteer Services at (202) 347-9675 or volunteer@melanoma.org
