Take Action: Stop the NIH Budget Cuts

March 21, 2017 | Categories: News, Policy, Research

TAKE ACTION! The newly proposed federal budget would cut $5.8 billion from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) budget in fiscal year (FY) 2018, which would be a crippling blow to the scientific community. At a time when extraordinary progress is being made in developing innovative new treatments for cancer—particularly melanoma—we cannot afford an 18% decrease in funding.

The Melanoma Research Foundation joins the biomedical research community in, not only opposing this cut, but supporting a $2 billion increase over the FY17 level for NIH.

Cancer is one of the most immediate threats to American lives, health and security, and the MRF will fight to ensure that critical research on melanoma and other potentially life-threatening diseases continues. Research must remain a national priority. Call on Congress to stand firmly against these short-sighted and ill-advised cuts to NIH. The time to act is NOW! Call, email and Tweet your members of Congress and tell them that this proposal must be stopped in its tracks.

In addition to advocating for increased government funding, the MRF is committed to advancing melanoma science through multiple research grants awarded each year. You can support this important part of our mission by donating today.
