After 2 successful results and 1 1/2 years of treatment on yervoy my latest scan showed a 9-10 mm subcutaneous mass in my right buttocks. Can a tetanus  injection I had 2.5 weeks prior to the scan be the answer??

Please help if possible.

PET scans show glucose uptake.  There are MANY things that can cause PET scans to have false positives.  Arthritis and trauma are two benign causes.  I'd say a tetanus shot in that same area is certainly a suspect.

If there isn't a CT scan done at the same time to compare then I would be highly suspicious of this PET result and wouldn't worry too much. Ask your onc what they think about it.

I was goose hunting-my shotgun got off a little on my shoulder and 3 weeks later the pet picked up a hairline fracture in my top rib-long story short those PETS pick up everything. I've yet to get through a PET totally clear. There's always something here or there-mucus plug in lung, something here or something there-I've had pets for the last 5 years-starting every 3 months then every 6. My doc said he would know when it was melanoma because it screams at him on a PET. I'm still stage 3b and go to mayo in Rochester. Good luck and my high school equivalency degree says it is a big nothing!
